Some Best Places to Visit in Gangtok in 2019

Gangtok is a paradise on earth and if you haven't been to this enticing travel destination, now after reading this, you must consider making Gangtok, your next adventure. Most of the places of visit get ubiquitously there or five or seven stars in the ranking.  Let's know more about them.



Enchey Monastery
One of the quite popular visiting sites in Sikkim is its monasteries. There among them, Enchey monastery is quite mentionable which itself has a name that means a solitary monastery. Though a smaller and noncommercial monastery, yet it has found profound love from visitors and locals. With beautiful interior decorations, having colorful artworks, statues, and collected masks that are used for ritual-dances, the place is just the perfect treat to eyes.

The monastery opens between 4 a.m.to 4 p.m. with Sundays being exceptional with closing time at 1 p.m.

You can visit two known monasteries on a day trip from Gangtok; one being Rumtek while the other is the more beautiful one, Lingdum which has a golden statue of Buddha.

Himalayan Zoological Park

Just opposite to the Ganesh Tok, is the Himalayan Zoological Park, one of India's well-maintained zoos in a natural setting of jungle and greenery. It has many rare animals, most of them rescued from poachers and hunters. The wild animals include snow leopards, Tibetan wolves, Himalayan bears, and red pandas.

You can visit daily between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., except on Thursdays. The ticket cost is Rs. 60 per head.

Tashi Viewpoint

To the north of the town, is the Tashi Viewpoint, offering one of the amazing views of Khangchendzonga from Gangtok. Though you may find that some people saying, climbing is not worthy of many efforts, but the fact is that you must not miss Tashi, when in Gangtok. On a cloudy day, you may not see the view, but if your luck favors, on a sunny day you will get the best. You will get telescopes for pay and use; also you can buy local art crafts from a roadside gift shop by the Indian Army. The money it gets from sales is for the support cause.

Ganesh Tok and Hanuman Tok

The amazing Ganesh Tok is a place that you must not miss. With its prayer-flags, this place adds to the beauty of Gangkok. There is a temple which is dedicated to Lord Ganesh and also has a cafe and some souvenir shops. As you take the higher altitude from Ganesh Tok, there is a more beautiful place to visit, the Hanuman Tok which has a beautiful orange idol of Lord Hanuman that ensnares the visitors.  This temple is specifically taken care of by the Indian Army and is a very peaceful place to visit.  With walkable trails, surrounded green gardens, and the beautiful view of Mount Khangchendzonga on a clear day, this place is an amazing tourist spot.

  
Do-Drul Chorten and Namgyal Institute of Tibetology 

People with interest in Buddhism and love for Tibetan culture will find the institute a place that will appeal their interest. With a museum, Tibetan-styled houses, and a library that house one of the largest collection of Tibetan works.

On the same road, is the beautiful Do-Drul Chorten but located a little away from the institute. Both are beautiful things to visit and watch.

Gangtok Ropeway

Much closer to the Do-Drul Chorten and Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, you can go for thrill ropeway cable car rides and enjoy an overall view of the city and adjacent area.
You can avail the ride between 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Ticket price vary and there are some discounts offered by various service providers.

Flower Exhibition Center

If you are visiting Gangtok from April to June or between September till November, then you must make way to the Flower Exhibition Center. With the greenhouse full of exotic blooms, mainly the orchids. You can get to purchase Orchid seeds and bulbs as well.

You can watch exotic orchid varieties in Deorali Orchid Sanctuary, little nearer to Namgyal Institute of Tibetology.
  
MG Marg Market

Next place to go is the busy and popular MG Marg, the main street of Gangtok. The street has a very non polluted ambiance, free of noise and pollution.   A popular place for hangouts for both tourists and locals.  There are shops to make your travel nostalgic purchases. The Golden Tips tea showroom is a much sought after place for boutique teas, including Sikkimese, Temi tea that grows in the state only.

The shop timing along MG Marg usually opens between 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with Tuesdays being closed.
